Priorities
Affordability & Cost of Living
For too many Michigan families, I know the cost of living is rising faster than paychecks. From housing and child care to groceries, utilities, and prescription drugs, everyday essentials are becoming harder to afford, and I believe the government has a responsibility to act.
I support policies that lower costs for working families and seniors, including fair utility regulation, protections against price gouging, and investments that reduce household expenses over the long term. I have championed pay transparency, strong labor protections, and living wages as essential tools to help Michiganders keep up with rising costs. I also support expanding access to affordable housing, strengthening renter protections, and investing in energy efficiency programs that lower utility bills while addressing climate change.
My approach to affordability is grounded in a simple belief: no one should have to choose between paying rent, buying groceries, filling a prescription, or keeping the lights on. I am committed to building a Michigan where working people can not only get by, but get ahead.
Economic Justice, Workers’ Rights & Pay Equity
Economic justice is at the heart of my progressive agenda. I support policies that guarantee equal pay for equal work, require employers to disclose salary ranges, and empower workers to report wage discrimination anonymously without fear of retaliation.
I believe in strengthening collective bargaining rights, expanding access to unions, and protecting workers from exploitation. My approach champions living wages, safe workplaces, and an economy that values people over profits. My vision is a Michigan where economic opportunity is not reserved for the privileged but shared broadly across every community.
Ethics and Government for the People
I believe that a truly progressive future for Michigan begins with a government that is transparent, accountable, and free from the influence of corporate interests and dark money.
Throughout my time in Lansing, I have championed sweeping ethics reforms, such as the BRITE Act, to expose the role of money in politics, strengthen conflict-of-interest rules, and ensure robust financial disclosures from elected officials. My vision is a state government where decisions are made for the public good, not for lobbyists or wealthy donors. I support expanding the authority of independent watchdogs and increasing public access to information so that Michiganders can clearly see who is influencing the laws that shape their lives.
For me, democracy is strongest when it is open, participatory, and fundamentally people-powered.
Voting Rights & Democracy
Protecting and expanding our democracy is one of my most urgent priorities. I am committed to making voting easier, more accessible, and more secure by supporting absentee and early voting, well-resourced election administration, and strong protections for election workers.
I reject all forms of voter suppression — whether through intimidation, misinformation, or bureaucratic barriers — and I work to counteract political forces that seek to undermine trust in elections. My goal is straightforward: every eligible voter should be able to cast a ballot freely, safely, and without obstruction.
At a time when voting rights are under attack across the country, I stand firmly on the side of expanding democracy, not restricting it.
Education and Opportunity for All
Drawing from my experience as a public school teacher, I am unwavering in my belief that every child in Michigan deserves a fully funded, supportive, and inclusive education.
I advocate for classrooms equipped with essential literacy supports, mental health professionals, modern facilities, and culturally responsive curricula that reflect students’ identities and experiences. I support affordable, accessible higher education pathways, especially for working adults, first-generation students, and those who have historically faced barriers .
For me, education is not merely a system to maintain, it is a transformative tool that can break cycles of poverty, uplift communities, and build a fairer, more equitable Michigan.
Mental Health Support & Community Wellness
A strong public health agenda requires treating mental health as a fundamental component of community well-being, not an afterthought.
I support expanding community-based mental health services, embedding mental health professionals in schools, and ensuring that care is accessible regardless of insurance status or income. I believe first responders should receive specialized training to safely support people experiencing crises, reducing criminalization and prioritizing care over punishment.
I also emphasize support for caregivers and families, recognizing that mental health challenges affect entire households and communities. My vision centers on healing, prevention, and dignity.
Public Safety
I approach public safety with a commitment to reducing harm and saving lives while addressing the root causes of violence.
I support strong gun safety reforms, including universal background checks and extreme-risk protection orders, to keep firearms out of dangerous situations. At the same time, I champion community-driven strategies like violence interruption programs, trauma-informed services, and investments in youth opportunity.Rather than relying solely on punitive systems, I seek to build safer communities through prevention, compassion, and evidence-based policy.
Another source of violence in communities in Michigan, and across the country, is ICE. ICE agents have been assaulting and disappearing people for months, and it must stop. In January of 2026, I traveled to Minnesota with legislators from across the country to stand in solidarity with the people there, and to gather valuable insights and resources from community organizers on the ground. I will do everything in my power to protect our community from ICE.
Protecting Our Environment & Investing in Sustainable Infrastructure
I view climate change not as a distant threat but as a crisis demanding bold, immediate action.
I support aggressive investment in green infrastructure, including rainwater management, flood prevention, and climate-resilient public works particularly in communities that have long borne the brunt of environmental harm. I advocate for modernizing transportation with a justice-oriented lens: reforming road funding formulas that disadvantage urban areas, expanding public transit, and accelerating the statewide buildout of electric vehicle charging networks.
We know that data centers are being proposed across our state, including right here in State Senate District 2. I voted against the tax incentives that opened the door to data centers in Michigan, and I was recently part of a bi-partisan bill package to repeal these incentives. I share the concerns of many community members regarding data centers’ water usage, and the potential of rising utility costs for residents. I will continue to advocate for greater transparency where data centers are concerned, and I support a one-year moratorium on data centers in Michigan.
My goal is a Michigan where clean energy drives economic prosperity, frontline communities are prioritized, and our state leads nationally in climate resilience and environmental protection.
Reproductive Freedoms
As a progressive advocate for reproductive justice, I believe that decisions about pregnancy and reproductive health belong entirely to the individual, not to politicians.
I support protecting and expanding legal abortion access and am committed to eliminating the outdated and harmful 1931 abortion ban from Michigan’s laws. My approach goes beyond legality: I seek to build a system where comprehensive reproductive and maternal health care is available to every community, regardless of income, geography, or identity.
I view reproductive freedom as inseparable from gender justice, economic opportunity, and basic human dignity.
